Oh, the plight of the righteous. Everyone thinks their viewpoint will be the one to transform the conversation. Our democracy depends on open dialogue and the freedom to air differing viewpoints. In an open forum such as a village meeting the sharing of opinions and ideas must be kept to a timeline. Grandstanding, hyperbole, and/or shouting should not be tolerated. The editorial cartoon depicts a citizen being called for time. There should definitely be a five minute limit for speakers in a public setting. A microphone can be a tool or a weapon. Five minutes is more than enough time to get a point across.

Unfortunately a person was interrupted recently and the microphone was demanded to be handed over at a recent village meeting after the person had gone over three minutes. And five minutes may seem like enough time and it usually is for most people to make their point but some people are just wrapping up a last sentence or two and interrupted and told time is up, take a seat. I personally feel they should let people finish up a sentence before reminding them of the time. It would be polite and listeners would hear the uninterrupted thoughts. Thanks.
