There was no competition of ideas in this election between competing candidates vying for open seats. It was yet another uncontested election for Croton. It's amusing to see people repeatedly wear the, “I voted stickers”, after voting repeatedly in uncontested elections.

Yes the budget items are important to vote on but it’s boring and disappointing to see another uncontested election. Competition is healthy and it keeps candidates on their toes. Too bad politics in Croton have to get so dirty if you don’t have lock step thinking with the Dems and the village or more people would attempt a run here.

Eventually though the status quo gets mixed up one way or another.

The two candidates are about 100 votes short of the total ~610 cast for the yes/no proposals. Not that it makes a difference to the outcome, but one way to look at it is that they were elected with 83% of the vote. The rest went to blanks or write-ins.

And out of town with around 9,000 people, that’s a tiny fraction of residents and school families as well. It’s definitely not representative of the entire town. There were no competing candidates so it’s no surprise the turnout was so dead low. Oh well. Elections around here are very predictable lately and oh so boring. A lack of candidates is a lack of democracy. Sad.
