Croton burglary suspect released on his own recognizance after nearly a year in jail.
Carlos Liriano, accused of burglary at two Croton residences as well as in other locations in New Jersey and the Bronx, was released today from Westchester County jail in Valhalla.
Carlos Liriano, who has been in the Westchester County jail since last December after being arrested in Croton and charged with burglary of residences on Wells Avenue and Piney Point Avenue, was released on his own recognizance today.
An official at the Westchester County Department of Correction confirmed an alert received by the Chronicle within the last hour.
While we are still looking into the circumstances of Liriano’s release, we had been told earlier by an attorney representing him and the county District Attorney’s office that authorities from multiple jurisdictions had been negotiating the order in which his various cases would be heard by the respective courts.
The original Croton-related charges against Liriano, as earlier described to us by the DA’s office, were as follows:
“Case 1: It is alleged that on Oct. 12, 2023, at approx. 12:15 p.m., the defendant unlawfully entered a house on Wells Avenue and stole a black suitcase and an 84 piece tool set from the home. It is further alleged the defendant caused damage to a door while gaining entry to the home. He is charged with Burglary in the Second Degree, Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree and Petit Larceny.
Case 2: It is alleged that on Dec. 5, 2023, at approx. 10:35 p.m., the defendant unlawfully entered a home on Piney Pointe Ave. in Croton-on-Hudson. He is charged with Burglary in the Second Degree.”
Liriano made an appearance in Croton court last February, which we reported on at the time. But no action was taken on his case on that occasion.
According to the most current information we have, Liriano is scheduled to appear in Croton Justice Court on the morning of December 11. We will update this report as we get more information.
