Recent letters in The Gazette suggest that those horrified by the huge number of civilian deaths are starting to speak out. That is a good thing, and we need more of it.
The responsibility for mass murder rests solely with Hamas who uses Palestinian women and children as human shields. As Golda Meir once said, "Peace will come when the Arabs will love their children more than they hate us." There can be no ceasefire until Hamas is destroyed and the hostages are retrieved.
Retaliation is natural after the October attack, but as the months have come and gone it is obvious it’s about a lot more than that and Israel has been out of line with some of their acts and what seems to be their objective and the World and many countries have been rightfully calling them out on it. You wouldn’t know just from the US main stream media though, which has been extremely biased on this topic, as it is bias on many issues and areas.
Thank you for the opportunity to voice my thoughts on the subject. I am not a Jew, but I am familiar with enough Jewish history to hold my beliefs. Their country suffered a Pearl Harbor-like attack on October 7th...they have justly responded with an appropriate war on hamas (purposely not capitalized!)...war is hell, period! Some, and as in the case of WW II, many innocents will die...the people of Gaza overwhelmingly elected hamas to fulfill their principal promise.."to kill all Jews!"... as did the German populace!... perhaps others might agree, while praying for a resolution with minimal deaths of innocents on either side?
Just a comment here, so I don't have to repeat myself and so I do not have to respond to every comment made on this post. In this article I link to a number of authoritative sources on the question of whether Israel is committing war crimes. There are many others, not only human rights experts but also journalists and doctors, who have come to the same conclusion. I suggest that readers consult those sources, because while everyone is entitled to their opinion, having actual knowledge of a situation is important for it to have merit.
Any concern for the innocents of those caught in the horrors of war is justified. However peace will never come to pass, if, the Palestinian people refuse to accept the predatory nature of Hamas. Where might someone find evidence of the predatory nature of Palestinian governance. Sophisticated battle ready tunnels with the population centers as the first layer of armor. Refusal to release the hostages ( if they still live ) even today rockets launched into Israel, why, to poke the bear to further cause casualties. To quote Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto “ I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with terrible resolve “.
That might be reasonable if Israel were not committing war crimes. But the evidence is massive that it is, and they are not permitted under any circumstances under international law.
Unfortunately many people do not understand that Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip are hostages of Hamas. When was the last time there were free elections in the Gaza Strip? Since coming to power in a violent coup in 2007 in Gaza, the Hamas terror group has systematically exploited Palestinian civilians, using them to protect their terrorist infrastructure while stealing enormous quantities of resources to build their war machine. RELEASE THE HOSTAGES!!
I am very concerned about the people and children killed in Gaza. Regardless, Hamas are terrorists and they campaigned on destroying Israel, taking all the land and killing all the Jews. Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East surrounded by countries that hate them. They definitely need our support. We would never tolerate living next to terrorists who attacked us. Israel has every right to defeat terrorists and live in peace. At the same time, they should help aid get to innocent civilians and Hamas should surrender and release the remaining hostages. I was appalled again this week watching video of Israel’s woman soldiers being lined up by Hamas on 10/7, told they would be crushed like dogs and then told how beautiful they were and that Hamas could get them pregnant. Then many of these women were taken hostage while others were killed. It was a barbaric video and it was edited to not show the more graphic incidents that happened there with this group of women. How is it that those calling for a ceasefire do not consider the return of all hostages as a prerequisite?
