Croton-Harmon school district election results: Wide margins, but a bit less for the Proposition #2 school bus purchases
A very low turnout nevertheless provides strong margins for propositions and unopposed Board of Education candidates
The school district has been slow to release the results of yesterday’s elections, but here are the latest totals as of this posting:
Proposition 1 — Overall budget Yes = 522 No = 92
Proposition 2 — School bus/equipment Yes = 418 No = 192
Proposition 3 — Repair Reseve Fund Yes = 541 No = 74
Proposition 4 — Croton library Yes = 536 No = 81
Unopposed incumbent candidates: Omar Mayyasi = 502 Ana Teague = 508
Voter turnout was typically low, probably less than 10% of the eligible voter pool. The propositions passed with wide margins of more than five to one, with the exception of Proposition #2, which passed with a more modest two to one margin.
That may be due to the opposition of electric school bus advocates, who argued that buying one large electric bus and three smaller gas/diesel buses will put the district off the necessary pace for meeting New York state requirements to go all electric by 2035.
The advocacy organization most involved, the environmental group Croton100, engaged in only limited campaigning against Proposition #2, but their efforts nevertheless seem to have raised questions in the minds of many voters.
We will update this post as more information becomes available.

There was no competition of ideas in this election between competing candidates vying for open seats. It was yet another uncontested election for Croton. It's amusing to see people repeatedly wear the, “I voted stickers”, after voting repeatedly in uncontested elections.
Yes the budget items are important to vote on but it’s boring and disappointing to see another uncontested election. Competition is healthy and it keeps candidates on their toes. Too bad politics in Croton have to get so dirty if you don’t have lock step thinking with the Dems and the village or more people would attempt a run here.
Eventually though the status quo gets mixed up one way or another.
