What do Croton climate change denialists have to do with the demise of CCA? Even assuming a cabal of such folks, they did not previously prevent SW from complying with regulatory requirements.

CCA was simply another ESCO, which were options in NYS since the mid 1990s. And there are still ESCOs for those who wish to get “renewable” or “green” sourcing.

Criticism of ESCO marketing originated on the environmentalist side, due in large part to the nature of renewable energy certificates purchased by “green” ESCOs. Not all certificates are created equal, and you get what you pay for.

Criticism of SW often came on operational grounds: not opposition to CCA in principle but rather the perception that this was a grift by politically-connected people (including elected and former elected officials).

The matter of the Sustainable Westchester CCA collapse is separate from the matter of the composition (and resilience) of NYS energy supply. The only relevant overlap I can see is that CCA demonstrates that there is a limit to the extent to which people are willing to voluntarily put their money where their mouth is.
