Sunday Photo Essay: Recent visitations to a Croton backyard bath.
The morning is "a time of peace and reflection that everyone should try."
by Bob Anderson

I spend a lot of time gardening and enjoy having a variety of animals visit my backyard. Hummingbirds visit my feeder all day. Many honeybees and bumblebees stop by to pollinate my flower offerings. I can't forget the chipmunks who are just fun to watch as they scurry and squeal around the deck. The deer of Croton are nice to watch only if they visit my neighbor's yard and anyone who has had their plants chewed to the ground knows what I mean.
During the recent hot spell I had a catbird stop by for a bath and a squirrel stop by for a drink in my backyard. It's always nice to share with our feathered and furry friends. I'm an early riser and I love the morning bird calls, usually the cardinal first followed by the catbird, jays and crows. It's a time of peace and reflection that everyone should try.
“Silent Spring” author Rachel Carson had it right.
“Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature — the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter.”

I loved the photo essay, Bob, and couldn't agree more about enjoying nature and the many creatures that are everywhere we look, especially in our backyards. I recently had to watch my 7-year-old grandson for the day. After he arrived, he asked, "Grandma, can we go to Sky Zone today?" I said, "Sky Zone! Not a chance and this is not a party venue I'm running here." We are going to one of the greatest shows on earth. The Hudson River where you can relive some history that I will tell you about, ride your scooter, see some birds and take in the most magnificent river in the U.S.
Enjoyable post. And nice comments! I put out ice from my maker and the chipmunks literally steal the cubes before they melt.
