Jerry Smath, whose paintings light up the covers, front and back, of the New Croton Review’s latest issue, was one of Croton’s most notable artists/authors. Known primarily as the creator and illustrator of phenomenally popular, prize-winning children’s books (his best seller, But No Elephants, sold more than a million copies), Jerry was also a master of many other styles and genres, as shown in the special portfolio of his paintings in NCR's Spring 2025 issue. To give Jerry’s admirers and the community at large a chance to witness the full range of his talent, a special two-day pop-up exhibit of his work will be on display on June 21 and 22. Free and open to everyone, it will offer the rare opportunity to own an original Jerry Smath, choosing from sophisticated abstracts to representational scenes to playful images perfect for a child’s room. Below is a generous sampling of the paintings that will appear in the show.
This show may be the last chance to see Jerry's paintings and illustrations under one roof. Save the date!
