Croton police chief John Nikitopoulos and Detective Nick DiTomasso brief the Board of Trustees on the identified source of the noise.
At a special meeting of the Croton Board of Trustees at 6 pm this evening, our chief of police announced that the department believes it has identified the source of at least some of the noise that has plagued villagers these past weeks.
Working with Haverstraw police, an individual parked across the river at a state park (not named but presumably Haverstraw Beach State Park) was encountered with large speakers on top of his vehicle and playing loud music.
Detective Nick DiTomasso, who worked on the investigation, told the board that at least 15 cars were involved at one time or another trying to outdo each other by playing loud music on speakers in parades and competitions. The meetups are apparently organized via social media.
Chief Nikitopoulos said he hopes the warning given to the individual who was caught in the act will put an end to the problem, adding that if Haverstraw police are not able to deal with the situation, Croton police would drive over and give the violators a summons for disorderly conduct.
It was not immediately made clear why Haverstraw police were not already aware of the problem and/or had not dealt with it themselves.
Nevertheless, the chief said he was hopeful that the intervention Croton police had carried out “will be the end of the issues.”
A grateful Board of Trustees, joined by the Village Manager, thanked the chief and detective, and then went into executive session on a personnel matter as originally planned.

They will get the State Police involved after last night. Haverstraw PD should be embarrassed. Logical that this is coming from land as originally it was thought to be a boat. These Sub Woofers must draw tremendous power, wonder where they are plugging in or maybe using a generator? I laughed this morning at a humorous quote from a Croton Resident on FB Page- "When do we send the Paintball Armada across the Hudson to deal with this"? 😂
