Poetry Corner: "An Ode to Sewage."
Wherein we inaugurate a new community feature. Be the poet you were meant to be!
Today, inspired by true life events, we inaugurate a new feature: The Chronicle Poetry Corner. Anyone in Croton-on-Hudson is eligible to submit items for consideration, although we do reserve the right to make editorial decisions about the selections. Poems about current events in the village will be given highest priority, but we will keep an open mind. Send us your best efforts (or your worst) to:
TheCrotonChronicle@gmail.com
We open with an entry the Chronicle staff penned itself: “An Ode to Sewage.”
For a while things were looking pretty grim
We couldn’t kayak, we couldn’t swim.
The reason remained a bit obscure
Even village officials didn’t seem sure.
A pumping station had a force main break
But no one could tell us if it was a mistake
Or if a big pipe was allowed to grow old
And encrusted with rusty, grotty mold.
Like so many events that seem very odd
And are treated as if they are acts of God
The Crotonville break will remain a mystery
And not even enter our books of history.
Poetry wants to be free, and so this special feature will always be free to all readers. But not all posts are or can be. Please consider taking out a paid subscription and support local journalism. You need it, and it needs you.
