Editor’s Note: While the Chronicle does not endorse candidates for elected office, we have made a standing offer to all candidates to submit statements for publication and to discuss the issues in interviews. This invitation has been extended to all four candidates for the May 20 election for Croton-Harmon Board of Education seats: Allison Samuels, Leslie Pollak, Theo Oshiro, and Will Begeny. We will publish contributions and interviews as they become available.
As candidates for the Croton-Harmon Board of Education, we have had the opportunity to speak with many members of the Croton community over the last several weeks about our schools on a variety of important topics.
In these polarizing times we think it’s more important than ever to know our community. This means pushing beyond our preconceived notions of each other and having dialogue with CHUFSD families and residents even if we don’t always agree on the issues. We want to get to know our many concerns, ideas, and goals.
We believe that open, collaborative discussions are a key factor in ensuring our schools best serve students and support teachers. We want to be as best prepared as possible should we be honored to be elected to the BOE.
In that spirit, Allison Samuels and Leslie Pollak invite you to:
Croton Kids First Meet & Greets
Sunday, April 27 from 9:30 a.m. to Noon: Sunset Park Playground (rain location: Matters Coffee)
Thursday, May 1 from 7-9 p.m.: The Croton Grille
Friday, May 9 from 5:30-8 p.m.: 237 Mount Airy Road West
Drop by when you can — We’d love to hear more about your concerns and ideas, share our experiences and thoughts, and answer your questions on topics including:
Technology in the Classroom & STEAM
Antibullying & Inclusivity
Meeting the Needs of All Learners
Arts & Other Student Interests
Athletics & Sports
College & Post-Graduation Readiness
