The Croton Lions Club celebrated their 85 years of serving the community, on Sunday, October 27th, at the Cortlandt Colonial Restaurant.
A brunch was held from 12 noon to 3pm, with approximately 50 people in attendance, with members, nonmembers and dignitaries (Brian Pugh - Croton mayor, Len Simon - Croton Deputy mayor, Emiljana Ulaj - Westchester County Democrat Legislator, Gary Eisinger - write in candidate for the Village of Croton Trustee race) were in attendance.
The restaurant provided a sumptuous buffet spread of breakfast and lunch food, including small bites buffet, omelet station and a prime rib cutting table and an amazing array of desserts. Guests complimented the food.
A big thank you goes out to the celebration committee; Bob Anderson, Leslie Anderson, Greta Hanson, Marey Berry, Sadie Longobardi and Steve Giacobello, on their amazing job of organizing the event; preparations and the decorations of the restaurant’s tables and the interior.
A journal, printed by Mines Press, includes the history and information of the Croton Lions Club. Kudos to Bob Anderson and Vic Conte for the hard work on soliciting ads for the journal and the editing and composing. Doing the Journal also provided money for our Charity funds.
After everyone got through with their meal, we started the festivities of recognizing members, deserving of recognition. The following members were honored: Don Daubney for being a member for 57 years, he also gave a speech on what it meant to him to have been a member for those years. Our next member to be recognized, Joe DiMarzo, who’s been a member for 55 years. And he also gave a short talk on what the Lions meant to him and a bit of the history of the Lions Club.
Don Daubney performed the ceremony of inducting two new members, Amy Rosato and Leslie Anderson. As usual he did another great job. Thanks Don.
Pete Tsagarakis, a member for 33 years, was awarded a plaque, as the Lion of the year. He was recognized, not only for being a great Lion, but also for showing extraordinary examples of being a compassionate, generous, kind person, who’s always contributing to charitable causes. Pete is the epitome of what Lionism is all about.
Other Lions members that were recognized were Bob Anderson, Mary Berry, Karen Polacek and Sue D’Amico for their amazing dedication to what being a Lion is all about.
The Lions Club 20-R1District Governor, James Paulin and his wife Denise, also attended the event. He gave a short talk about Lions Clubs, local and International, very informative and inspiring. He also was complimentary about Croton Lions Club; on how much we’ve increased our membership.
The event concluded with some “fun” door prizes. It ended at 3pm.
