Guest Editorial: Croton's local clergy make "An Appeal to the Immigration Control and Enforcement Officers."
"We appeal to the common humanity of our fellow Americans..."
As religious leaders of different faiths who represent the peoples in Croton-on-Hudson and surrounding areas, we remind our neighbors and political leaders of the ancient call found in our holy books to welcome the stranger.
We appeal to the common humanity of our fellow Americans serving as Immigration Control and Enforcement officers, to refuse to enter houses of worship, schools, including religious schools, hospitals, courts of law, and police precincts.
Immigrants, like the rest of us, sometimes need immediate emergency medical care, and report crime or serve as witnesses to a crime. Most especially, immigrants who come to our sanctuaries to worship should do so without fear.
The constitutionally protected right of religious freedom, the importance of life saving medical care and the act of reporting crime to protect the wellbeing of all persons in our county are all sacred rights we want for ourselves and for all our neighbors.
