Guest Editorial: Asbury United Methodist Church Welcomes a New Pastor
Pastor Steve Chu will replace Rev. Bette Johnson Sohm.

Asbury United Methodist Church in Croton is pleased to announce the appointment of Steve Chu as their new pastor as of July 1, 2025. Pastor Chu will succeed Rev. Bette Johnson Sohm who has been appointed as lead pastor to the Sullivan Methodist Parish in Sullivan County, New York.
Pastor Chu was born and raised in Queens, New York, the son of Korean immigrants. He has a BA in Media Studies from Hunter College and a Master of Divinity from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC. He has served English-speaking congregations in Korean-American churches and in cross-cultural churches. His Asbury appointment will be shared with his current service for Trinity Boscobel United Methodist Church in Buchanan.
Pastor Chu is eager to expand his pastoral service to Asbury and into the Croton community. Congregants will welcome him to Asbury’s pulpit at a new church 9:30 am Sunday service time on July 6th and at a noon July 12th Welcome Picnic on Asbury’s front lawn or in the church Social Hall in the event of rain.
Asbury United Methodist Church, located at17 Old Post Road South, has occupied its current building since 1883.
