On Monday, November 11th, the Croton Yacht Club held its annual Veterans Day Luncheon. Guests were treated to a delicious Thanksgiving themed lunch prepared by Yacht Club members. Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts greeted the Veterans as they arrived and catered to their every need during the day.
Over 300 cards decorated the room, each beautifully hand colored and filled with both moving and comical sentiments from Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School students. Special thanks are extended to the Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School teachers who coordinate this effort annually. Most cards were pre-printed by the faculty and distributed to the children. Blank cards were distributed to older students and they were encouraged to express their sentiments in their own words.
The love and appreciation expressed in these cards along with that exhibited by the Scouts who were present was uplifting and gives us hope that future generations will never forget the sacrifices made to secure the freedoms we all enjoy. Special thanks to the parents and teachers who have instilled this sense of patriotism in our children and grandchildren.
Many thanks to everyone who made the day so special for our local heroes.
