I agree 100% I would love to elevate this critical gateway by improving both accessibility and walk-ability directly to/from the shopping center doors, while adding beautiful landscaping and ensuring proper lighting; I will speak to Manager Healy to see if our upcoming NY Forward Grant submission addresses these village needs.
Another excellent guest article that truly targets a concern that will only grow, as the author noted, if the projected housing project directly across the street comes to fruition.
PS….I remember playing mini golf down there as well as Dad hiding us under blankets in the old Rambler station wagon to keep costs down at the drive-in. Love those pictures.
Frankly I think the improvements that Stacy Nachtaler referenced should be part of the development plan should 425 Riverside gain acceptance by the Village.
What if the village built a walkway from the corner of Riverside and Croton Point Ave. down to the parking lot? It would probably be hard to make it accessible for disabled people but it would be a lot safer then nothing. We would have to pay the cost but I think the community recognizes the need.
And wait and see what happens when the dispensary opens on South Riverside and Benedict. How many more cars will there be either with people turning the wrong way, lost or those who stop at Shoparite gor groceries after or before getting their cannabis? I shudder to see as a pedestrian who has walked there for 12 years and nearly been hit several times. Every single time is stressful, having to constantly scan, look back and forth, brace to be ready to jump out of the path of cars.
Thank you for this interesting article with a look at pictures of the drive-in. When driving down the north driveway, I always cringe when seeing pedestrians trying to enter or exit the Shoprite Plaza. It is truly a dangerous situation and one that should have been fixed years ago.
