Neighborly Community Group Greets Village Newcomers
Croton Welcome Wagon Brings Neighbors Together
Croton-on-Hudson, NY— October 4, 2024 — The Croton Welcome Wagon, a community group formed in 2021, welcomes all Croton-on-Hudson residents to a Fall Potluck at Senasqua Park Pavilion on Sunday, October 13, from 12 – 2 pm. Longtime residents and newcomers alike are invited to bring a dish, drink, or treat to share while catching up with neighbors new and old. Additional treats and coffee will be donated from ShopRite and The Black Cow.
A community group of Village of Croton-on-Hudson residents, the Croton Welcome Wagon has hand-delivered over one hundred welcome bags to new residents since 2021. The group has also organized multiple community-wide social events since summer 2023, with a goal of bringing together all Croton residents and fostering a spirit of community and welcome. The welcome bags are created in collaboration with local businesses and organizations, including the Croton Historical Society, Croton Free Library, Croton Police, EMS and Fire Departments, and other community resources. These reusable tote bags include a variety of coupons and discounts, local information, newsletters, magnets, and more. The offerings have recently grown to include freshly baked loaves, bags of coffee beans, and other treats from local businesses.
The Croton Welcome Wagon has roots in the 1970s when a once-thriving local group organized community events and babysitting swaps in Croton-on-Hudson. Reviving that spirit, Co-founder Allie Fraase recalled, “I moved here for the friendly, welcoming, bring-homemade-cookies-to-your-neighbor feel that I didn’t experience growing up in a sparsely populated area of the South. I read in a community Facebook group that there used to be a welcome wagon in our Village, and when other Croton residents expressed interest in starting it up again, I immediately joined in.” Like other Welcome Wagon volunteers, Fraase has enjoyed meeting new residents in person when delivering welcome packages and is especially heartened when they return for community events.
The Croton Welcome Wagon typically connects with new Village residents through their current neighbors or local real estate agents. New homeowners and renters can also request delivery of a free welcome package to their local Village of Croton-on-Hudson address via the Welcome Wagon's website (crotonwelcomewagon.com) or Facebook page (www.facebook.com/crotonwelcomewagon). These sound really nice for our village. I have yet to attend one but maybe I will stop by at this one to meet and welcome new neighbors. Thanks for sharing!
