Croton composting program expands!
All Croton residents are now eligible. The program has relocated to the far south end of the Croton-Harmon station parking lot and has expanded capacity.
We are happy to share this press release we have received from the Croton Sustainability Committee:
Croton’s three-year old food scrap collection and composting program has expanded to accommodate all Croton residents. The program (initiated by the Village’s Sustainability Committee) was previously limited to about 150 registered families.
Having recently re-located to the far south end of the parking lot at the Croton-Harmon train station (next to the salt shed), the program now has a new shed and the extra drop-off bins needed to accept food scraps at that site.
Scraps are then picked up and converted to compost by Sustainable Materials Management, a private firm based in Cortlandt Manor.
Croton residents that did not already receive an emailed notice of those changes are now invited to register to participate by emailing their name, email address, and phone number to Cheryl Wong at SustCommComposting@gmail.com. Registration is free but required to receive notices of program changes. Find program rules and a list of acceptable food scraps at https://www.crotononhudson-ny.gov/foodscrap
The Sustainability Committee thanks Keiko Niccolini, the person who brought us the food scrap collection program we have today, for her past (and ongoing) efforts. Croton would not have a composting program without her work and organization skills.
Please email questions about the program to Cheryl Wong at SustCommComposting@gmail.com
