500 posts! A new milestone for The Croton Chronicle. Next stop, two year anniversary.
Serving the Croton community since 2023.
With today’s Guest Editorial, The Croton Chronicle has now published 500 posts since it launched in October 2023.
That is a significant accomplishment for any media outlet, let alone one serving a relatively small community like ours. Our articles have included investigative reports, breaking news stories, profiles of Croton personalities, editorials, Guest Editorials, and even occasional stories about people and places outside of the village.
Over this time, the Chronicle has garnered a loyal and continuously growing readership of more than 1,200 direct email subscribers, and a smaller but significant cohort of paid subscribers whose support is critical to keeping the publication going. The renewal rate for paid subscriptions is well over 90%, a rare achievement for any media outlet. We are profoundly grateful to those who have been so generous in their support of local journalism.
In addition, the Chronicle benefits from dozens of regular sources, advisors, expert consultants, and others in our local community who work behind the scenes to insure the steady supply of ideas and information that are the lifeblood of a community newspaper—and who help to insure the accuracy of what we publish.
Indeed, in all this time, the Chronicle has never had to publish a major correction to any of our stories, only a handful of minor corrections.
We know that not all of our readers like all of the stories the Chronicle publishes, but that is how it should be. The steadily increasing readership demonstrates that most people in our community appreciate the importance of truly independent journalism, even if some stories might make some people uncomfortable some of the time. The Chronicle is beholden to no one—not to advertisers (we don’t have any), nor to investors or big donors (we don’t have any of those either), nor to any political or social groups.
The Chronicle, in its reporting and in its Guest Editorials, strives to represent the broad and diverse viewpoints in the village and the school district. Its news and investigative pieces always include—when they are willing to comment—alternative viewpoints and opinions, especially on controversial topics, as standard journalistic ethics demand.
And its “pages” are always open to the community. To discuss or submit a Guest Editorial, you can contact us at TheCrotonChronicle@gmail.com
Yet despite this success, the Chronicle can’t function, nor can it continue, without the tangible support of its readers, including in the form of paid subscriptions. We work very hard to bring you the news, features, and opinion pieces that keep you informed about what is going on in our community; so today, on the occasion of our 500th article, we are asking you to help keep us going.

As everyone knows, local journalism is under great threat in our country. Here in Croton, we are bucking that trend. Please help us do that. In doing so, you are helping yourself and the entire community as well.
